Senegal. Head of the legislative list, Macky Sall leaves his post as Special Envoy of the Paris Pact

In a letter addressed to French President Emmanuel Macron, Macky Sall explains that he took this decision out of “a desire to avoid any conflict of interest” after he decided to return to the Senegalese political field, six months after his departure from the presidency, in April 2024.

The former head of state of Senegal (2012-2024) was appointed to the post of special envoy in November 2023, shortly before the end of his second term by President Macron.

“As you probably know, the circumstances of Senegalese political life, following the dissolution of the National Assembly, led me to be named head of the list of the Takku Wallu Senegaal coalition for the legislative elections scheduled for November 17, 2024. “, wrote the former Senegalese head of state, adding “under these conditions, and to avoid any risk of incompatibility and conflict of interest, I would like to bring to your kind attention that I have decided to put myself a step back from my activities as Special Envoy of the Pact for people and the planet from October 9, after the Hamburg summit on sustainability for which I had already made commitments.

Macky Sall, was named this week head of the list of the Takku Wallu Senegal coalition (opposition) in the legislative elections on November 17 in Senegal.

The Takku Wallu Senegal coalition notably brings together the Alliance for the Republic (APR) founded by Macky Sall and the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) of Karim Wade, son of former president Abdoulaye Wade.
