The creation of the Organization of Turkic States (OET) marks an important step in cooperation between countries speaking Turkic languages. Founded 15 years ago under the name of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking Countries, it was created following the Nakhchivan Agreement signed on October 3, 2009 by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkiye.

The main objective of the OET is to strengthen cohesion within the Turkic world by sharing historical and cultural values. The organization promotes cooperation in areas as varied as economy, politics, education, culture, defense, security, transport, customs, tourism and sports, thus contributing to geopolitical recognition increased.

Over the years, the OET has consolidated a strong regional position through the combined efforts of its member countries, which cover an impressive area of ​​4.25 million square kilometers and are home to approximately 160 million people. This dynamic has intensified since the heads of state summit in Istanbul in November 2021, where the organization took its current name.

Currently, the OET has five full members: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkiye and Uzbekistan, with the addition of Turkmenistan, Hungary and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as members. observers. Based in Istanbul, it is structured around five main bodies, such as the Council of Heads of State and the Council of Foreign Ministers.

Key initiatives such as the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Countries and the International Organization of Turkic Culture play a crucial role in its activities. The OET also maintains partnerships with major international bodies, such as the UN and the World Customs Organization, and has an office in Budapest to strengthen European ties.

With its “Turkic World Vision 2040”, the OET aims to strengthen political solidarity and economic cooperation while preserving the cultural heritage of this community. The launch of the slogan “Turkish Era” underlines the common commitment to in-depth collaboration, particularly in defense and security.
