In a column recently published on the website of the Nigerien newspaper L’Autre Républicain, Hinda Bazoum, daughter of deposed president Mohamed Bazoum, strongly accused former president Mahamadou Issoufou of being at the origin of the military coup which led to the fall of his father last July.

She denounced the conditions of detention of her parents and directly blamed Mahamadou Issoufou for this injustice suffered by the Bazoum family. In her words, she expresses the pain of knowing that the people responsible for their detention are individuals with whom they had cordial relations.

Hinda Bazoum goes further by asserting that Mahamadou Issoufou orchestrated the coup out of self-centeredness and with the aim of protecting his own interests. According to her, this coup was planned to allow him to return to power after a period of military transition during which a new Constitution would be adopted.

It is important to remember that since the coup, Mohamed Bazoum and his wife have been detained inside the presidential residence in Niamey.
