The cost of building these power stations, envisaged by the Guinean Ministry of Energy, Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons, is estimated at 90 million dollars.

As part of the diversification of energy sources in Guinea, the government plans to build two solar power plants at a total estimated cost of $90 million.

This announcement was made on September 14 by Aboubacar Soumahproject manager at the Ministry of Energy, Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons.

During the presentation of the feasibility studies of the project to the technical and financial partners, Mr. Soumah specified that each power plant would produce 25 megawatts of energy.

The localities benefiting from this solar energy project will be the prefectures of Siguiri and of Kouroussalocated in the east of the country.

“Today, we will discuss the purchase contract and the financing agreement for the construction of the photovoltaic power plants in Siguiri and Kouroussa”Mr. Soumah said.

According to Kaba Fode Bamoudouproject engineer, Guinea continues to express a growing need for energy to meet the population’s demand.

He also stressed that the project “aims to satisfy national consumption, but also to promote sub-regional consumption”.

With these photovoltaic power plant projects, Guinea wishes to strengthen its solar energy production capacities in order to fill the country’s energy deficit.

According to data from the Ministry of Energy, Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons, Guinea had an electricity access rate of 46% in 2023.
