At the start of the year, autumn and winter precipitation formed white marshes in the fields of Cotentin. An ideal land for migratory birds who come to take refuge there.
In the English Channel, the white marshes of Cotentin put on their winter attire. The meadows covered with water mix with the colors of the sky. In this enchanting landscape, birds live a sweet life and arouse the curiosity of observers. Because during the winter, the Parc des Marais du Cotentin becomes one of the largest grassland wetlands in France, where migratory birds settle.
“These areas are extremely important since they constitute stopping areas for these species, which come looking for peace and quiet but also for food”underlines Kilian Beurville, coordinator of the Cotentin and Bessin Marshes Regional Natural Park. With the heavy rains of the season, water invades the fields in the lower valleys. Barriers and fences become submerged, forming what are called white swamps.
