A fourth mobile operator adapts to the DIGI tsunami: prices divided by three, data almost tripled…

This second point is far from trivial, in a market where Proximus charges €120 per month for this gigabyte of excess, compared to €0.60 for the Belgian-Romanian joint venture DIGI Belgium.

The fall in the price of a gigabyte if the monthly quota is exceeded

One month after the arrival of DIGI on the Belgian telecoms market, Base is boosting its four mobile subscriptions this Monday, January 13, 2025:

  • Base 15. €15 per month, unlimited calls and SMS, 15 GB instead of 8 GB. €1 per additional GB instead of €1.80.
  • Base 20. €20 per month, unlimited calls and SMS, 50 GB instead of 25 GB. €0.40 per additional GB instead of €0.80.
  • Base 29. €29 per month, unlimited calls and SMS, 90 GB instead of 50 GB. €0.30 per additional GB instead of €0.60.
  • Base 39. €39 per month. Unlimited calls and SMS, 300 GB instead of 120 GB. €0.10 per additional GB instead of €0.30.

Current clients automatically inherit the new terms. New customers who subscribe online by March 3, 2025, via the Base website or My BASE mobile app, inherit a 25% lifetime discount. That is Base 15 to 11 € per month, Base 20 to 15 € per month, Base 29 to 21 €, Base 39 to 29 €.

Depending on the formulas, Base makes an effort to almost triple the data and divide the price of the additional gigabyte by three (example: Base 39).

Two specific operator services are always present. The Data Jump carries over the unused volume of data to the following month. Free Data Day grants 24 hours of free data on the first day of the month.

The DIGI flaw, the efforts of and Proximus via their subsidiary brands

If the €5 SIM card from DIGI Belgium causes a sensation, it is not free from defects. Some are correctable, such as the flaws in customer service, which seems overwhelmed in these first weeks of marketing. Other results of a choice, such as no voicemail.

Via its sub-brand hey!, Orange is the only operator to have launched a mobile subscription at €5 per month. The conditions are identical at first glance: unlimited calls and SMS, 15 GB of data. But be careful, the excess GB will be charged €10 at hey!, compared to €0.60 at DIGI.

Owned by Proximus, Mobile Vikings has decided to double the data volume of its four mobile subscriptions. The price of the excess GB remains the stumbling block: €100. Only the €29 (170 GB) subscription is based on a reduction in speed if the monthly plan is exceeded.

Still in the Proximus camp, Scarlet improved its mobile subscriptions on January 8, 2025, while taking care to reduce the cost of the additional GB to €0.60.
