Following a scandal which causes great turmoil, Héloïse Drouin arrives at the Kanawata base. An unexpected request from the American government places the Canadian army in an uncomfortable position. As the pressure increases on Maria, Mick and his friends join the infantry.

The start of winter is not easy for the characters in Les Armes. “When the series returned in January, several weeks had passed since the events of late fall. The investigation into Wesley’s death yielded answers, but they weren’t the ones we expected. A scandal occurs and causes big changes. At the same time, Héloïse Drouin, a new character, arrives at the base,” announces the author, Pierre-Marc Drouin.

Due to the turbulence in Kanawata, Lieutenant-Colonel Savard wants to reform the ranks to ensure that everyone is moving in the same direction. The arrival of Héloïse will make her task easier.

A lack of resources

While a tense climate reigns at the base, the United States government contacts Canada with an unexpected request. “The Americans need JTF 16, to whom they want to entrust an important mission. Unfortunately, this is not a good time, since several things are going wrong on the Canadian side. There have been budget cuts and there is a shortage of personnel, since JTF 16 is already on a mission in the Far North. The problem is that we don’t say no to the Americans. We need to find a solution quickly,” says Pierre-Marc Drouin. The issue should be a matter for staff, but since Craig is in charge of JTF 16, Kanawata leadership is involved in the process. We cannot recall the commando from its mission and send it elsewhere on the planet. We need to think about the question and show imagination to find how to respond positively to the Americans’ demand without losing out.

In the infantry

Mick, Rose and Audrey finished their rookie camp several weeks ago. They decided to continue their military careers and entered the infantry section. “Their arrival is not smooth. There are tensions, and the soldiers already in place are “picking” the new guys. Things are particularly difficult for Rose and, especially, for Audrey. Mick will try to resolve all this by proposing a semi-friendly competition,” mentions the author.

Caught in a vice

Maria thought that after her father left, she would have no more problems and would not hear from him again, but she was wrong. The Russians contact her and “offer” her to work for them in turn — in fact, they make it clear to her that she has no choice but to accept, otherwise they threaten to take action to her or her family. Maria is in an impossible situation and doesn’t know how to get out of it. Should she confess everything to Louis-Philippe and ask for his help?

Kim also finds herself in an uncomfortable position. She has just lost a man to whom she cared very much and she is not satisfied with the conclusions of the investigation. She has only one desire: to continue the steps taken to bring down Craig. Savard is not of the same opinion: he needs the colonel and prefers to forget everything. Kim, who also has to defend herself in a trial, is not doing well at all. “It’s definitely not a good time for her,” concludes Pierre-Marc Drouin.
