Nicolas Lunven, 6th in the Vendée Globe 2024

A racing full of audacity and resilience

From the first days of racing, Nicolas confirmed that he was ready to play in the big leagues. Taking advantage of daring strategic options, he was illustrated in particular by winning the distance record traveled in monohull and solo over 24 hours, with 546.6 miles. If the latter was quickly surpassed by Yoann Richomme then Sébastien Simon, there is a striking moment of his race, stressing his ability to exploit the full speed of his Imoca. But the Vendée Globe never gives a gift. Technical concerns, such as a repair on a ballast hatch in the pot-au-noir or damage on its mainsail in the seas of the south, have not spared it. However, he knew how to be calm and ingenuity each time to continue playing the outposts. His strategic intelligence, combined with his ability to navigate cleanly in dantesque conditions, was notably highlighted during his tight duel with Jérémie Beyou and Thomas Ruyant in the Pacific.

Tenacity in the face of unforeseen events

The vagaries of the race decidedly did not spare it, especially during the ascent of the Atlantic. The loss of its mast head in a stormy area was a real blow, taking with it the wind sensors, essential to optimize navigation. Demonstrating remarkable agility, he installed a makeshift aerial at the back of the boat to continue his journey. Despite this incident, he was able to remain competitive, grappling a place in the ranking in the last days, especially in a particularly intense depression before the Azores.

A first participation which calls for others

By finishing 6th in this 10th edition of the Vendée Globe, Nicolas Lunven proved that he was able to compete with the best, even in the face of the unexpected. This first participation will have been marked by its calm, determination and technical skill. At 42, the Holcim skipper – PRB concludes this adventure with a high -flying performance, revealing other exploits to come.
