Faustine Bollaert: why did she refuse to interview the President of the Republic?
While France was plunged into uncertainty with the dissolution of the National Assembly ordered by the head of government at the dawn of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Faustine Bollaert preferred not to be “instrumentalized” giving a posture potentially “friendly” to Emmanuel Macron during this political whirlwind, as she explained in C the weekly three months ago. Invited into the Buzz TV of Figaro this Monday, January 6, the companion of a writer is embarrassed to return to the circumstances of this (failed) exchange with the President of the Republic.
Faustine Bollaert embarrassed to approach the interview with Emmanuel Macron which she declined, she explains
“I’m super uncomfortable with this story because every time I’m asked the question, [c’était] supposed to remain very confidential (…) [car] maybe it was wrong to go and say that“first of all assures Faustine Bollaert. And to warn: “I don’t want to show off at all as a matter of pride [le fait] for having said no to the President, on the contrary, I was rather very anxious about this decision, I didn’t sleep for a few days“. The journalist ended up revealing that the deadlines and timing of this interview were far too short. “I am called on a Wednesday to do an interview on Friday. I am not Caroline Roux, I am not Anne-Sophie Lapix (…) I am also lucid about the risks I was taking”admits the one who is usually more confined to entertainment. Beyond its legitimacy, this mother of 2 children recognizes that she did not wish to receive it given the political situation that the French were going through. “It didn’t serve him, it didn’t serve me and we weren’t going to do anything good”she concludes.
