Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek reunite for a new batch of four episodes of “Malcolm” for Disney+, no less than 25 years after the launch of the beloved sitcom.
The series ran for seven seasons starting in 2000 and was praised for looking at ordinary life through the eyes of a gifted youngster, now an adult: Malcolm, played by Muniz, who has a genius IQ. “I have been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now,” enthused Frankie Muniz in a video message accompanying the announcement. The four new episodes will be designed by the creator of the original series, Linwood Boomer. No release date has been announced.
“With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will bring back all the laughs, pranks and mayhem that audiences have loved – plus a few surprises that remind us why this series is so timeless,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, in a statement. “Malcolm” originally aired on Fox and ended in 2006. The series won seven Emmy Awards – including one for best writing for a comedy series – and is currently streaming on Hulu and on Hulu through the platform Disney+.
The announcement revealed one reason why Malcolm and his parents are getting together: Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into family chaos when Hal (played by Brian Cranston) and Lois (played by Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence to celebrate their 40th anniversary wedding.
