Koh-Lanta: production explains an old controversy

You may not know it, but in 2009, during the season of Koh-Lanta called Palau, there was a candidate that you had not seen during the adventure. This is in fact what Julien Magne, the producer of the show, explained to Tele-Leisurein an article published Tuesday, November 26, 2024. This candidate was called Joëlle, and had been completely cut during editing, as Julien Magne recounted. A request that came from the candidate, who did not wish to appear on screen.

Why did you cut it during editing?

“We cut one person entirely at their request during the editing. There had been a big error during the selections and it was someone who was very frustrated to be eliminated on the first day of the adventure. But apart from this case, there have been no other requests”, he explained. At the time, Joëlle had also declared to the media The Independent : “I was sacrificed. I was manipulated. Conditions like that for the Koh-Lanta of heroes, OK, Fear Factor too, but not for the Koh-Lanta of anonymous people. I was inconsolable.”

“They know it’s a filmed adventure”

Always near Télé-Leisure, Julien Magne explained that everything was signed to the millimeter: “By getting involved in Koh-Lanta, they know that it is an adventure which is filmed and which will be broadcast afterwards.” And to add: “In more than twenty seasons, we have never had any complaints from adventurers who don’t recognize themselves in the show and I don’t believe that is the case with Lola.” Indeed, Julien Magne returned to the controversy surrounding Lola last year. Many Internet users had alerted the adventurer of the numerous shots on her buttocks. The producer himself reacted at the time to Tele-Leisure : “Lola was fed by these few remarks and she herself fueled the pseudo-buzz around her posterior,” he explained.
