Burundi joins the International Union of Notaries (UINL), bringing its members to 92, and moves towards the adoption of an International Code of Notaries
The president of the French notary, Mr.e Bertrand Savouré, went to Lisbon (Portugal) to participate in the meeting of UINL authorities, chaired by Mr.e Lionel Galliez, bringing together more than 58 countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and North America, or more than 150 participants.
This meeting was an opportunity to welcome the notariat of Burundi within the organization, which now has 92 national notariat members. In addition to the adoption of the annual budget, the participants approved a large part of the texts which will constitute the future International Code of Notaries, which should be definitively adopted at the end of 2025 during the congress to be held in Berlin.
Non-binding and designed as a common “toolbox”, this code aims to provide a global reference framework for notaries, while respecting the diversity of practices. It addresses in particular the status of notaries and access to the profession, the consistency of notarial acts, a guarantee of authenticity, as well as the areas of expertise of notaries in family law, real estate, commercial law, corporate law, etc.
