Marilyne Canto (Dorval) reveals the real reasons for her departure from the series

If 3 offers a new rebroadcast of Alex Hugo this Tuesday, November 26, it is a separate episode (our opinion). Indeed, it is a particularly moving plot which results, in addition, in the departure of a recurring character: that of the commissioner of the PJ, played by Marilyne Canto. If until now Christine Dorval applied the law at all costs without letting her feelings show or asking any questions, this time her humanity will take over and make her make an astonishing decision. At the time this unpublished episode was broadcast, the actress gave us an interview, where she explained in particular why she had decided to leave the series.

Alex Hugo : Marilyne Canto (Dorval) reveals the real reasons for her departure from the series

Télé-Loisirs: Dorval just needs to go out of his way once to leave the series? Why this radical decision?
Marilyne Canto:
We didn't know how to get her to leave. So, we chose to do it based on a dilemma between our conscience, the law, morality and humanity. By tearing up the report, she knows that she is going too far and for her it is like a point of no return. She makes the decision to stop, without bitterness or anger. She simply realizes that she is no longer capable of doing her job. I like it when we show the weakness of people who have responsibilities.

Why did you decide to leave the series?
I was sincerely happy to participate in this adventure but I needed to commit to other projects becauseAlex Hugo, It’s worth it! [Elle rit.] It's a series that takes a lot of time, even just to get to filming. It takes six hours by train and an hour by car when there are no problems: landslides on the line, snow… And then we shoot several episodes, so we have to stay on site for a long time and we depend on bad weather. … This year, I participated in two films that I would not have been able to do because the shootings fell at exactly the same time as those ofAlex Hugo. But it's not a definitive departure, it's a question of me coming back punctually. In any case, they didn't replace me, which I really appreciate.

Is your return already in the pipeline?
I don't know yet how it will be scripted but, yes, it is in question.

Why is there no goodbye scene with Alex Hugo?
There is one with Renart [Mikaël Fitoussi, ndlr] on deck, but not with Alex. It's missing, perhaps. I hadn't thought about it. But I had a very nice farewell. [Elle rit.]

“I had a very nice going away drink!” laughs Marilyne Canto about her departure fromAlex Hugo

There was talk of an episode centered on Dorval…
It was discussed before I made the decision to leave. As a result, we had to redo the scenarios to integrate this departure.

Did you make this decision despite the fact that it could have been developed?
Yes. To choose is to give up! [Elle rit.] It's neither sad nor happy, it is what it is. It's part of the actor's life. It feels good to change and move on to other adventures.

What do you think she will do now?
I think she will take a step back and ask herself if she can continue doing this job. I see it more as a suspension than a definitive stop.

If you only had to keep a laugh from the filming ofAlex Hugo…
It would be when I'm driving. [Elle rit.] Driving is a disaster, I drive very badly. The whole team burst out laughing saying: “Be careful, Maryline is going to start the car.” When it was necessary to shift into forward gear, I shifted into reverse. In my defense, these are mountain roads. I happened to be overtaken for certain sequences, otherwise we would have lost too much time, especially when we had to go fast, take turns…
