A refreshing comedy. This Monday, July 1, France 3 broadcasts the feature film An almost perfect village. Directed by Stéphane Meunier, the film tells the story of “Saint-Loin-la-Mauderne”, a small village hit hard by the crisis and desertification. In order to revive its activity, the inhabitants have only one solution: to restart the salmon smoking factory. However, the insurance companies require the presence of a resident doctor. However, the last one retired more than five years ago without ever finding a replacement… Behind Germain, their gruff but charismatic mayor, the inhabitants will then do everything to convince the very Parisian doctor Maxime Meyer that happiness can be found in Saint-Loin-la-Mauderne.

Real comedy, An almost perfect village brings together a five-star cast with Didier Bourdon, Lionnel Astier, Lorant Deutsch, Elie Semoun and the actress Armelle. It is also the first feature film by Stéphane Meunier, a trained journalist-reporter and director of numerous TV films and the documentary Les Yeux dans les Bleus.

A film shot in a rugby region

For this film, Stéphane Meunier also gave a lot of thought to the choice of filming location. For a time he had thought about the islands off Normandy, the Vosges and the Jura, which have remote villages. His choice ultimately fell on the Pyreneesparticularly due to the presence of rugby teams in this region. “With Djamel (Bensalah, the producer of the film, editor’s note)what amused us was the prospect of see rugby players – guys with squashed noses and cauliflower ears – playing a game of cricketwhich has a reputation for being a “girls’ sport!”

Another fun fact is that most of the villagers in the film are An almost perfect village were played by the current inhabitants of the village. They mostly had the same jobs as in reality, with the exception of a few people, such as the mayor, played by Didier Bourdon. To be as credible as possible, the latter drew on his “country” memories to get into character.
