Eva Longoria, also a producer, plays in The Land of Women Gala, a New Yorker whose life is turned upside down when she discovers her husband’s financial embezzlement. In order to escape the dangerous criminals to whom the latter must answer, she is forced to flee with Julia, her mother (Carmen Maura), and Kate, her daughter (Victoria Bazúa). They take refuge in La Muga, a small wine-growing village in northern Spain, which Julia fled 50 years ago. The three women are trying to make a new start and hope to remain discreet. But this village contains many family secrets and it will not take long for them to resurface.

As for Carmen Maura, in the skin of Julia, she is excellent. We delight in each of his scenes, his naturalness and his repartee. We also love the flashbacks to his youth. This tells us why it is the way it is today. The Land of Women thus brings humor with its heroines, and their interactions with the other protagonists, touches of mystery with the secrets surrounding Julia, but also depth with the treatment which is made around self-acceptance and what we want. However, there are fewer conflicts with dangerous criminals. Stereotypical, they do not impress us and we would sometimes do without their scenes even if Amaury Nolasco, the interpreter of Sucre in Prison Breakmanages to do better in the game. A series of twists and turns, until its outcome suggesting a season 2 if successful, the fiction sparkles like a bottle of champagne. Endearing and full of humor, The Land of Women offers an energetic and refreshing cocktail for this summer.
