“We are going to tell the truth to viewers”: Faced with Léa Salamé, François Ruffin and Sarah Saldmann reveal why they are “angry”

A sequence that is causing a lot of talk… Léa Salamé and her gang received, on Saturday November 9 in “Quelle époque!”, the president of the National Rally and European deputy Jordan Bardella, the comedian Florent Peyre, the journalists Maryse Burgot, Thomas Snegaroff and Gaspard G, or even the daughter of singer Florent Pagny, Aël Pagny.

“Why are you canceling it?”

François Ruffin and Sarah Saldmann were also guests on the public service program to promote the film “Au travail!”. Léa Salamé asked the politician who made this documentary: “So, afterwards we're going to tell the truth to the viewers, you're both a little angry… It's still the main character of the film, the common thread of the film, the idea behind it, Sarah Saldmann, and then bang, a quarter of an hour before the end of the film, she disappears. Why are you canceling it?”.

The Picardie Debout deputy from the 1st constituency of the explained: “You know that on October 7, I reacted with clarity when there were the massacres that were committed in the Israeli kibbutzim and I said at that time that these were terrorist acts committed by Hamas, that a life was worth a life, that the tears of an Israeli mother were worth the tears of a Palestinian mother”.

To the question “Why was Sarah Saldmann fired from the film?”, François Ruffin replied: “Because I can't make a humanist film here and not be humanist there. For a year, we have never heard Sarah Saldmann have a word of empathy for the children in Gaza. Is she capable this evening of having a word of empathy for the children in Gaza, for the destroyed hospitals, the people who are having operations without anesthesia?”.

On 2, Léa Salamé sought to find out: “Sarah SaldmannI don't know if you have a word for Palestinian children, but how did you deal with being fired from the film because of your unwavering support for Israel?”. The lawyer at the bar said: “Ah, I had a very bad experience because I didn't see the link between the film and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I didn't really see the connection!”.

The talk show host who intends to “take the pulse of society” launched: “You still agreed this evening to come alongside François Ruffin promote?” Sarah Saldmann said : “You know, I am not sectarian. It's not me who wanted to disappear from the film. When there are people who think differently from me, I confront ideas, I don't say: “No, you leave”… In any case, I accept it because I have no choice. Then do I understand it? I don't do politics and I don't want to. So I think it gives me greater freedom”.

Journalist Maryse Burgot, also present on set, questioned the former member of Les Grandes Gueules on RMC: “And so you are not capable of saying: “The attacks of October 7 were terrible etc. and at the same time what is happening in Gaza is also terrible?' You can't say that?”. Sarah Saldmann concluded: “I can say that it all started on October 7 and that Israel was a victim on October 7, that I can tell you. And that when we are victims, we defend ourselves and that Israel has the duty to defend itself, yes, I can tell you that… Concerning Palestinian and Gazan civilians, obviously I can deplore what is happening. It's deplorable, they have nothing to do with it, they are civilians. But was that what the film was about?”.
