This was no longer really a secret but Disney made it official by announcing it on CANAL+’s birthday. The American channels and services will leave the encrypted channel universe at the end of the year.
It has now been several weeks since CANAL+ has stopped communicating on Disney+ and the encrypted channel’s website indicates on new subscriptions that the platform will only be available until December 31, 2024.
Disney+ and seven channels disappear
There was therefore not total secrecy regarding the departure of Disney+ from CANAL+’s offerings as of next year but this time, it was communicated directly by the American firm which announced the end of the contract linking it to CANAL+.
In addition to Disney+, Disney channels will also disappear from CANAL+ offerings from 2025. We will therefore have to say goodbye to Disney Channel, Disney Channel +1 or even Disney Junior but also National Geographic, National Geographic Wild, Voyage and Fox Play.
The end of films six months after release
But the biggest gap for CANAL+ is certainly the end of making Disney content available six months after their theatrical release. If a film was released in June of this year, it will be visible on the encrypted channel in December, allowing you to quickly see what’s new rather than waiting for it to be made available on Disney+ after 17 months.
The two companies have been partners for three decades now and Disney’s termination at CANAL+ is quite brutal. No agreement has been reached regarding the renewal of the contract.
To see if Disney does not wait for the revision of the media chronology which could take place at the beginning of next year to reserve its films for its own platform in the future. Finally, if the chronology is revised.
