The CSCA approves the SNRT specifications for the creation of 4 sports TV channels

At the end of a plenary meeting, on October 28, 2024, the Higher Council for Audiovisual Communication (CSCA) approved the draft supplement to the specifications of the National Radio and Television Company (SNRT). This text provides for the launch of four thematic public television channels dedicated to sports: Arryadia 1, Arriyadia 2, Arriyadia 3 and Arriyadia 4.

According to a press release received by Yabiladi, this version was sent for approval to the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) by the head of government, under article 49 of law 77.03 relating to audiovisual communication. The channels will be broadcast 24 hours a day by satellite or “by any other technical mode”.

In this sense, the CSCA praised the efforts of the public audiovisual center for “promoting Moroccan citizens’ access to sports information and entertainment, particularly through the broadcast of various national and international competitions.”

Furthermore, the body called for “strengthening the national media offering dedicated to sports”, so as to support the momentum that Morocco is experiencing with numerous new deadlines: 2030 World Cup, African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025 ), 2025-2029 editions of the U17 Women’s World Cup, among others.

Also, the CSCA “considered that these new channels, which are added to Arriyadia, are likely to allow the public audiovisual service to improve, quantitatively and qualitatively, its action in terms of media coverage and influence of Moroccan sport nationally, regionally and locally.

The idea is thus to “consolidate the role of public audiovisual media in promoting positive values and ideals of sport in the service of social cohesion, territorial inclusion, unity and national identity”.

While noting progress in terms of visibility of women in the public sporting space, the Council “reiterated its call for greater media coverage of women's sport and for fairer media representation of female expertise in this area”.

For the HACA, “the unifying and socializing potential of sport is likely to promote the culture of parity and equality between men and women within Moroccan society”.
