Doctor Odyssey: where have you already seen the crew members of Ryan Murphy’s new medical series?

Exit the firefighters and the serial killers, it is the medical team of a luxury cruise ship which is at the heart of the new series created by Ryan Murphy. Before boarding, meet the members of the Doctor Odyssey crew.

The days are starting to get shorter and the cold is starting to set in at the end of the year, and if you’re already thinking about your next vacation, Disney+ has something to take you on a journey without even leaving your couch with its new series Doctor Odyssey. Launched this Thursday, October 24, with the posting of its first 2 episodes online, this new release created by the very prolific Ryan Murphy (9-1-1, Monsters, American Horror Story) takes you out to sea.

Max is the new ship’s doctor on a luxury cruise ship where the crew works hard in very festive conditions. Max and his small team will have to demonstrate great ingenuity to manage both extraordinary medical emergencies and their personal relationships, hundreds of kilometers from the shore.

Before setting sail, let’s put the spotlight on the members of this crew who take on medical cases and unusual situations with panache!

Joshua Jackson is Dr. Max Bankman

Tina Thorpe/Disney

At the head of the ship’s medical team, we find Joshua Jackson, unforgettable Pacey in the hit series Dawson, a role which allowed him to acquire true international fame in the same way as his co-stars James Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams and Katie Holmes.

The actor started his career early, taking his first steps on screen at just 13 years old in Crooked Heart, before landing a role in Les Petits Champions. In recent years, he has mainly appeared on the small screen in the series Fringe, The Affair, Little Fires Everywhere and Dr Death.

In Doctor Odyssey, Joshua Jackson could well overshadow Dr. Mamour and Glamor from Grey’s Anatomy. Valedictorian at Yale, winner of a humanitarian prize awarded by the United Nations and member of the Johns Hopkins pediatric committee among others, his character Max Bankman has all the makings of an accomplished doctor and may well capsize a few hearts…

Phillipa Soo est Avery Morgan

Disney+

If Max Bankman is new to the crew, this is not the case for the two nurses on his team who have been working together on the ship for several years. Self-confident and determined, Avery Morgan is determined to show her new boss the full extent of her skills, and more if she likes it!

She is played by Phillipa Soo. The actress got her start on stage and is best known to Broadway fans for her portrayal of Eliza in the musical Hamilton. On screen, she also appeared in the romantic comedy The Broken Hearts Gallery, and in the series Dopesick and Shining Girls.

Sean Teale is Tristan Silva

Tristan Silva, Avery’s colleague, also a nurse on the liner, does not take kindly to the arrival of his new superior. Extremely suspicious (and jealous!) of Max Bankman, a real competitive spirit will develop between the two men. Under such conditions, will they succeed in working together on a daily basis?

It is Sean Teale who lends his features to the character of Tristan. Revealed thanks to the successful series Skins (seasons 5 and 6), like many other British actors of his generation, he then continued his career on the small screen by playing Prince Louis de Condé in Reign. He also starred in Incorporated and The Gifted.

Don Johnson is Robert Massey

What would a ship be without its captain? Taking great care of his passengers, Robert Massey wants to guarantee all vacationers have the best possible stay on board and in the best conditions.

To take on this role, Don Johnson, made famous thanks to the series Two Cops in Miami, was chosen. Both present on the big and small screen, spectators were able to see the actor in Hot Spot, The Devil’s Advocate and more recently Django Unchained and Knives Out, as well as in the series Nash Bridges, in which he plays the title role, Just Legal, Kenny Powers and Watchmen.

Alongside this leading quartet, a few guest stars occasionally invite themselves on the boat, including Shania Twain, Chord Overstreet and Margaret Cho.

The first 2 episodes of Doctor Odyssey are available now on the Disney+ platform. The rest of the series will be broadcast weekly.
