The innocent, A perfect man, Prometheus, Rivière-Perduein recent years, she was in all the successful fiction. And from this Wednesday, October 16, she is starring in the miniseries A suspicion on France 2, in which she plays Isabelle, a difficult to understand woman who is suspected of having murdered her husband. Because behind this affable facade, gendarmerie captain Mathilde Delboscq (Joyce Bibring) suspects a manipulative woman who hides a past as a murderer.
Imagined by Franck Ollivier, the series A suspicion is already available in full on the France.TV platform for those who would like to discover the four episodes that make it up as quickly as possible. And it could be that Isabelle’s story reminds some of a true story: that of Manuela Gonzalez, alias “the black widow of Isère”. It all starts with the murder of Daniel Cano who, survivor of a fire at his home at the end of September 2008 while he was on sleeping pills, was found dead and charred a month later in a vehicle set on fire in a field, in Villard-Bonnot. His wife at the time, who had already lost two previous husbands, François Collazo in 1989 and Thierry Lechevallier in 1991, was quickly suspected of having murdered her partner to collect the life insurance money.
A sentence of 30 years of criminal imprisonment
After years of mystery, procedure and twists and turns, Manuela Gonzalez was finally sentenced in 2014 before the Isère Assize Court to 30 years of criminal imprisonment for the murder of Daniel Cano. A conviction confirmed on appeal in 2016 before the dismissal of his cassation appeal. The motive for the murder of Daniel Cano is a sum of 235,000 euros from two life insurance contracts as well as an exemption from repayment of the loan. The investigations into the deaths of François Collazo and Thierry Lechevallier have not been completed at this stage. Nevertheless, Manuela Gonzalez is nicknamed “the black widow”, notably because, in 27 years, five of her companions or husbands were murdered or escaped a murder attempt.
