Politics is Koh-Lanta: in the end, there will only be one left!

Several candidates had the bitter experience this Sunday and woke up Monday morning, their heads sandy from a night full of questions. In the end, there will only be one left, proclaims Denis Brogniart during each Koh-Lanta credits. Well, it won’t be those. And that’s the game of democracy: in politics, even when you win at the polls, you can lose.

The outgoing mayor of Nivelles, Pierre Huart (MR), can only deplore this. Mayor since 2006, the liberal came out first in terms of preferred votes, in the first party of the Cité aclote. The fact remains that he will sit in opposition for the next six years. Because while almost one in three Nivellois voted for the MR, the Engagés, who did a colossal good, preferred PS and Ecolo to move into the majority. “The die is cast, breathes Pierre Huart. Despite a team which has the first score in Nivelles and despite the first personal score, another majority is in negotiations. The rule is known, I respect it.”

The mayor will be a Committed, Bernard De Ro, elected with four times fewer votes.

2024 municipal elections in Nivelles: outgoing mayor Pierre Huart wins the election but is rejected in the opposition!

Same situation near Péruwelz, in Hainaut. Winner with 41.41% of the votes, the MR obtained 12 of the 15 seats. Not enough to stay in power: PS and Engagés joined forces. With 13 seats out of 25, they threw the outgoing mayor, Vincent Palermo, the municipality’s biggest scorer, into opposition.

Paul-Olivier Delannois has already returned to town hall to shoot a greeting video but in reality it is on the 9th that his sick leave will end...

Another scenario on the Tournai side. Outgoing mayor Paul-Olivier Delannois seemed to be in an armchair. But the new MR-Engagés-Ecolo alliance stuck a dagger in his back. With 6,768 preferred votes, Delannois is 3,000 votes ahead of the one who steals the mayoral seat from him: a certain Marghem Marie-Christine, former federal minister of Energy.

We see, in politics as in Koh-Lanta, the blue, red, green or turquoise tribes do not do each other any favors…
