Documentary
Child Star
This documentary explores a rich theme: child stars growing up in front of the lens. Singer Demi Lovato discusses pressure, money, consumer issues, body image and exploitation with other actors who have been working from a young age, including Christina Ricci, Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson and Raven -Symoné. All for 90 minutes. It’s far too short to address such a high number of serious themes. Result: we feel that we remain on the surface. As soon as we start to touch on something interesting, we move on to the next topic. Despite everything, Child Star remains interesting… while waiting for a more in-depth documentary series.

The surprise
Chucky
Certainly, the American series has just been canceled after three seasons. But since in Canada, it was only offered on Showcase, a cable channel with an overall confidential reach, its arrival on Netflix will help spread the good news. Because indeed, this television adaptation of ultra kitsch horror films based around a doll inhabited by the spirit of a killer was – oh surprise! – frankly successful. It was twisted, fun and terrifying. Grieving fans who haven’t missed an episode can console themselves with this recent hopeful statement from Don Mancini, the writer, director and creator of the cult character: “Chucky will be back.” He always comes back. »
Netflix, starting Tuesday
The safe bet
Beautiful and bum
After 21 seasons, we often hold Belle and Bum for granted. But every time we put our feet up, we watch the whole show. This will certainly be the case this week, since rapper K. Maro will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Femme Like U. With or without Nancy Martinez? That remains to be seen. Other guests include Paige Barlow, Claudia Bouvette, Ben Sidran and comedian Silvi Tourigny galore. Another detail to mention: we really like the formula of the “beautiful” ones in rotation (Marie-Josée Gauvin, Lunou Zucchini and Fabiola Aladin). Each brings something different alongside Normand Brathwaite.

The return
The Alouettes: new takeoff
Those who closely follow the Canadian Football League should know that head coach Jason Maas’ team recently earned its bye to play in the Eastern final in the playoffs. They may not know that between two matches, they will be able to watch four new episodes of New flightthis documentary series produced by Fairplay (Revolution) in collaboration with Quebecor Content. The series gives us, according to the TVA press release, “unlimited access to the locker room” of the Montreal club which will try to win a second Gray Cup in a row this fall. The trailer shows us that part of the action will be centered around Marc-Antoine Dequoy, Frédéric Chagnon, Louis-Philippe Bourassa and Sean Thomas Erlington.
