Brigitte Garin is a well-known author in the world of Resistance history. Indeed, four years ago, she released a first book recounting, in great detail, the history of a Rouen resistance network with multiple connections, notably with the Black Devils maquis, in Saint-Denis-le-Thiboult. , the Salesman network. The title of the book was: “A Norman family in the Nazi turmoil”.

Contact with the Hamon family

The seriousness of this book has won him several awards. Today, on the eve of the commemorations of 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, Brigitte Garin returns with a new book, still in homage to these men and women in the shadows: “Jacques Hamon, Le Havre resistance fighter and defender of art.

Faithful to her line of conduct, Brigitte Garin delivers meticulous, complete work full of details; information found in the archives of the Defense historical serviceto departmental archivesmunicipal of Le Havre, or to national archives in London. But also, in the family background of the Hamon family.

The origin of this book dates back to the release of the previous one. “In my previous book, I mentioned Jacques Hamon. He is a person who left an impression on me, because he was put on trial twice despite the fact that he could be sentenced to death each time. As soon as he was released, he returned to Le Havre to resume his activities as a resistance fighter.”

Three years of work

She then contacted the Hamon family to find out if she could obtain a photo of Jacques Hamon. And, fortunately for history buffs, the matter didn’t stop there…

Moira, Jacques Hamon’s daughter-in-law who ordered the previous book from me, asked me if I wanted to write the story of her father-in-law Jacques Hamon.

The Hamon family made available to Brigitte Garin a number of photos, contacts and exceptional documents such as letters that Jacques Hamon wrote during his periods of captivity.

The research and writing work took me three years, even though I had already worked on the Le Havre groups in the first book in which I already talked about the H Hour and the Morpain network.

In her book of more than 330 pages, Brigitte Garin presents the history of Jacques Hamon and the Heure H and Morpain networks chronologically, painting a portrait of each resistance member of the networks.

The story, presented in a lively and exciting way, also takes the reader to the Rouen region, with sabotage operations carried out by a certain Bob Maloubier.

Brigitte Garin will be at the Museum of Resistance and Deportation, in Forges-les-Eaux, Saturday May 11, in the afternoon, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., to sign her book.
