As in previous years, the book fair will take place over two days with one day dedicated to schools and one day open to the general public.

The general public day will take place on May 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Recreation Center, located at 15, chemin du Ruisseau-Serpent. May 10 is a day reserved for the school portion of the show.

There are various artists and writers, from globetrotter to rapper. Among the guests, we include Manu Militari, rapper and writer, Isabelle Charbonneau, illustrator and author, Ugo Monticone, author and globetrotter, Marie-Hélène Cyr, children’s author and space engineer, Jocelyn Démétré, author and former soldier, Marylène Tremblay , author and editor Karine Flamand, graphic designer and artist, Christian Frenette, artisan and fisherman, Denis Lafond, author and retiree, Luc Desilets, son of Antoine Desilets, photojournalist, as well as Ève Lyn Marchand and Ariane Hivert, co-authors of book Five highlights of the century for women.

The section open to all

The day will begin with story time, starting at 10:30 a.m. It is a children’s author from the municipality, Marie Beauchamp, who will present her tale to children aged 0 to 5. Illustrated by Valérie Levasseur, the book is entitled The Adventures of Bloop the White Fish, in reference to the park of the same name which is located within the municipality. A coloring book of the story will be given to the children who attend the activity.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., interested parties will be able to discuss with the authors and artists of their choice during the Dinner-Chause activity. In addition, a pop-up bookstore can be visited throughout the show. Michel Rabagliati, autobiographical cartoonist and author of the Paul comics, will offer a conference on Saturday, May 11, from 2 p.m., followed by a signing session.

The school component

For the school component, young people from the Notre-Dame-du-Laus and Notre-Dame-de-Pontmain schools will participate in 3 blocks of activities. At the end of these 3 activities, the child will be able to leave with 3 books, or 2 books and a creation, if the child has chosen to register for an artistic activity.
According to Valérie Levasseur, communications coordinator for the municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Laus and organizer of the activity, the objective of this component is to share with children the pleasure of reading and the arts. “The show allows the child to arrive at secondary school with better tools,” adds the latter.

With this 12th edition just around the corner, Valérie Levasseur mentions that the show is a popular activity for Lausois and those interested in other surrounding villages. “Often the room is full during the afternoon conference. Usually, we welcome more than 150 people.”
