A Lévis teacher arrested by Calgary police

The City of Calgary police department announced, on May 6, that it arrested a 54-year-old Lévis teacher, Mario Joseph Denis Arsenault, in connection with possible sexual crimes that he allegedly committed against a teenage girl. then aged 14, in the early 2000s, while he was teaching in Alberta.

It was in 2023 that Calgary police began their investigation which led to Arsenault’s arrest. At that time, the alleged victim, now an adult, warned the police that she had suffered sexual assaults between 2000 and 2003, when her teacher at the time, Arseneault, would have “started an inappropriate relationship with her”.

The sexual assaults allegedly began when the alleged victim was 14 years old, while attending Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys school, and continued for several years thereafter.

“It is believed the teacher used his position of trust to befriend the victim and develop an ongoing sexual relationship with her. Several assaults allegedly took place in his vehicle and at his home,” Calgary police said in a press release.

Due to these alleged actions, Mario Joseph Denis Arsenault recently had to answer two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual assault.

Arseneault will return to court on June 6.

Finally, note that the teacher worked until very recently at the Navigateurs School Service Center (CSSDN). He was suspended indefinitely due to the criminal charges filed against him.
