Saint-Rémy. Gilles Platret in conference to present his book “I grew up on the demarcation line”
Descriptive text here

At the invitation of the Saint-Rémy Patrimoine association, Gilles Platret, mayor of Chalon-sur-Saône, will be in Saint-Rémy on Tuesday April 23 to present the book written with his mother I grew up on the dividing line : memory of a peasant family in from the 1930s to the 1960s.

A testimony

This book is a testimony that reads like a novel. That of a humble life which has lived through great History. For almost three years, Gilles Platret, mayor of Chalon and historian, collected and transcribed his mother’s memories of her young years in the Chalon region. Denise, born in 1933, experienced the great drama of the war from her farm located in Granges which, in July 1940, found itself cut in two by the demarcation line. Despite the war and daily threats, childhood retained its rights, with Grandma Jeanne’s candy, communion with nature and laughter in the schoolyard. We devour each page of this story which, with the harshness and trials of war, combines the playfulness and joy of life of little Denise.

Gilles Platret will share with the San-Rémois a number of anecdotes linked to the memories of his mother. A projection of old photos will illustrate his point.

Conference Tuesday April 23 at 7 p.m., at the Espace Georges-Brassens in Saint-Rémy. The author will sign his book (on sale on site). Free admission.
