Pogacar, Roglic, Evenepoel, which Grand Tour will the 2025 leaders go on?

Now that we know the route of the three Grand Tours of the season, it is time to look at the objectives of the leaders. On which GTs will the leaders go in 2025?

This year, Primoz Roglic decided to double Giro Tour. Well, rather Redbull since the latter would a priori have preferred to aim for a 5th title in the Tour of Spain. But in the absence of the other big names, the Slovenian is the favorite. However, the road to victory would not be so easy since there will be a lot of people at the start of the Giro. On the UAE side, Juan Ayuso and Adam Yates will be the leaders, supported by Isaac Del Toro. Antonio Tibéri, 4th in 2024, will be at the start again in 2025 to try to do better. If he continues his progress, he is a candidate for the podium. Mikel Landa will have carte blanche in the absence of his leader Evenepoel, just like Simon Yates, with Vingegaard focused on the Tour. Finally, David Gaudu will aim for a top 5 or even a podium, before going to the Tour to aim for the stages.

If neither of the two titans has any problems, we should have a good clash between Vingegaard and Pogacar, refereed by Evenepoel and Roglic, if the latter takes over the Giro. UAE will also be able to count on Almeida, 4th last year and Adam Yates while Visma will have Kuss or Jorgenson in addition to Simon Yates. Ben O’Connor, author of an XXL season in 2024, focused this year on the Grande Boucle, just like Felix Gall or Lenny Martinez. The Spanish duo Mas – Rodriguez will aim for a top 5 before doubling up with the Vuelta. The competition will therefore be very fierce for Guillaume Martin or David Gaudu side as well as for Van Eetvelt, despite his good Tour of Spain 2024.

Among the sprinters, Philipsen will face competition from Jonathan Milan, Tim Merlier or the 2024 green jersey Biniam Girmay. Wout Van Aert will also be a candidate for the green jersey if we give him a chance.

As is often the case, the Tour of Spain serves as a catch-up session and many leaders have not announced that they will ultimately go to the Spanish GT. But a Pogacar Vingegaard duel is expected again, even if nothing is 100% confirmed yet. Enric Mas, as a specialist, will also be there as will Carlos Rodriguez, who is struggling to shine on his national tour. If he has not confirmed his arrival, it is very possible that Evenepoel will line up there, unless he wishes to prepare 100% for the world championship in Rwanda where he can aim for the double. Alexander Vlasov and Jai Hindley will share leadership of the Redbull side, supported by Guilio Pellizzari. Joa Almeida is also announced at the start, and will perhaps be joined by Ayuso, whose presence is important for the organization. Finally, two young people will double Giro / Vuelta: Lennart Van Eetvelt and Antonio Tiberi. A beautiful adversity on a very mountainous route.
