During a ceremony held at the start of the public meeting of the municipal council Monday evening and as part of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities which is being held this Tuesday, the City of Victoriaville honored initiatives and citizens who stand out through their actions towards universal accessibility.
This year, the Victoriaville Ville Inclusive Excellence prize was awarded to the project The inclusive Diagonal of Fools.
The inclusive Diagonal of Fools allowed a person with reduced mobility to participate in a sporting challenge, namely a 100 km running course with a difference in altitude of 5000 meters in the mountains of Reunion Island. Thanks to the support of runners, this project illustrated, for the City, surpassing oneself, solidarity and exemplary team spirit.
The Ambassador prize was awarded to Mr. Yvon Brunelle, in recognition of his efforts to support services dedicated to people with disabilities in the region.
“His long-standing involvement within the Group of organizations for disabled people, Handicap Action Autonomie Bois-Francs and his many years dedicated to adapted transport with Rouli-Bus, testify to exemplary dedication and a profoundly human” underlined the municipal councilor, Chantal Moreau.
Honorable mentions were also given to the organization Le Support, Autobus ROBO, Gestion Immobilière BTO, Clinique Reabilio inc. and Le Claretain – Kdanse for their inspiring initiatives.
The Le Support organization was recognized for its work in favor of the integration into the workplace of people with an intellectual disability or an autism spectrum disorder.
For its human approach and its services adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility, Autobus ROBO also earned an honorable mention.
The City wanted to highlight the approach of Gestion Immobilière BTO which aims to make its businesses accessible to all.
Clinique Reabilio offers personalized occupational therapy services that meet the needs of people with disabilities. They also earned an honorable mention.
Elliot’s Friends Troupe from the Le Clarétain – Kdanse dance school was able to adapt a dance allowing young people with disabilities to shine on the show Quel Talent!.
