Two days after Stéphane Vitel was found dead in his establishment in Lisieux, Calvados, the investigation is continuing. The suspicious conditions of his death suggest an assault. An autopsy of the body will take place on Monday and may remove the vagueness around the case.
In Calvados, it is still vagueness and incomprehension that reigns. Two days after the death of Stéphane Vitel, the principal of a college in Lisieux, in Calvados, whose body was found in his establishment on Friday morning, the investigation continues. Investigators are tracing the thread of information known at this stage to identify the first leads.
Trace of break-in
At 5:59 a.m., Stéphane Vitel, 48, received an alert on his phone as he was about to go on vacation with his wife and children. The principal then decides to go to his college and enter it alone, while his family is waiting for him. But after long minutes, his wife and children are worried. It is his daughter who then discovers the body of her father, lifeless in the entrance hall. Stéphane Vittel’s wife, then the emergency services, will not be able to resuscitate him.
The prosecution now considers his death as suspicious. A trace of break-in was found on one of the secondary doors of the college. And for his wife, no doubt, her husband was attacked. In an interview with BFMTV, she evokes a blow to the head. A car sped off and a light in a college window.
Great emotion also among the teaching community. “A great sadness, a moved thought for Stéphane, because I worked in the same department as him. And then a thought for his family. Then, a feeling also of a certain form of anger by saying that this type of drama, the death of a colleague in the exercise of his functions, is something that should not happen”, indicates the union of management staff of National Education. The autopsy will take place on Monday and psychological cells will be set up for teachers and college students.
