Two cars collided head-on in Saanen (BE) overnight from Saturday to Sunday. One was driving from Saanen towards Rougemont, while the other was traveling in the opposite direction. When they arrived at the scene of the accident, the intervention forces discovered this second car, the two occupants of which – slightly injured – were taken to hospital for a check.

As for the first vehicle, it rolled over before falling along a steep slope into the Sarine. But no one was found in the cabin or around it, the Bernese police said in a statement. However, on Sunday, the Vaudois police released a lifeless man from Lake Vernex in Rossinière, 17 kilometers downstream.

The Sarine as it arrives in the Lac du Vernex at Rossinière.

According to current information, it is the driver of the car, who was alone in his vehicle. “There are clues as to his identity, which has not yet been formally established,” said the police. And, in Saanen, in order to find the possible occupants of the car that fell into the river, the Bernese police have extended the search, in particular along the Sarine using a police dog and by helicopter. In vain.

This large-scale intervention required the closure of the road between Saanen and Rougemont until early Sunday morning. It mobilized several patrols and special services from the Bernese and Vaud police, firefighters from Saanen and Lausanne, a Rega team, members of the Swiss Alpine Rescue and two ambulance teams.
