One more controversial decree. Donald Trump, who wants to closely control the distribution of federal aid in the event of natural disasters, reported on Friday that he was going to “perhaps delete” FEMA, the federal response to hurricanes, fires and other disasters.
“I will sign a decree to start reforming deeply and reform FEMA or perhaps delete FEMA,” said the republican president during a trip to North Carolina, after for example already threatened to no longer help California, Democratic state, in its fight against fires in Los Angeles.
It has been several months since the 78 -year -old billionaire put the Federal Emergency Management Agency in his viewfinder. Under his first mandate (2017-2021), he had assured that the “FEMA works really well”.
His attacks had grown in particular during the last electoral campaign, when he had taken wreckage from Hurgagan Hélène in North Carolina, to reproach Democratic President Joe Biden and Fema for having voluntarily neglected disaster areas because they voted republican.
-Donald Trump, however, has never brought evidence of these accusations.
More recently, he threatened to stop federal aid to combat fires in Los Angeles, on the grounds that California would have cut water arrivals necessary for anti-initiated systems, which experts deny.
