Three civilians, including a woman and a child were seriously injured this Thursday, January 23 during the explosion of a bomb in the locality of Lubango, located 45 kilometers from Lubero-Center. According to the army, the bomb was launched by the rebels of the M23 from the hills overlooking the locality of Alimbongo.
“The terrorists of the Rwandan army fired several Blind Bombs on Thursday evening on the Libango locality, bamate chiefdom,” says Colonel Mak Hazukay, spokesperson for Sokola 1 for the Far North.
This officer also explains that the rebels “continue to militarize schools, churches and other public places in the southern part of the territory of Lubero, under occupation, in serious violation of international humanitarian law”.
The Lubango incident occurs in a context of increasing tensions, while the M23 and the army have faced for several weeks in the localities of the south of the Lubero territory.
In the territory of Lubero, the front is located between Kayambi and Mambasa. These two localities have experienced rough fights for several weeks. The FARDC are in Ndoluma where they have accentuated the offensive in recent weeks against the M23 which has been holding its defensive position in Alimbongo.
-In addition, other clashes between the two parties are reported in the Kibumba group, in the territory of Nyiragongo, as well as around the localities of Sake and Mubambiro, about twenty kilometers from the city of Goma.
Faced with this escalation, a council of ministers meets this Friday in Kinshasa under the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi. Vital Kamerhe, president of the National Assembly, suspended a trip planned to participate in this important meeting. President Tshisekedi will try to reassure the inhabitants of Goma, while the M23 rebels recently reached the locality of Sake, located just 20 kilometers west of the city.
