Near Grenoble. The series of armed robberies ends, the criminals finally caught

In total, six people, including three minors aged 14 and 17, were arrested this Thursday, January 23, 2025, in the Rhône for a series of 11 robberies of tobacco shops committed over the past month in several departments, indicated the Grenoble public prosecutor’s office (Isère).

The targeted businesses were located in Isère, Savoie, Rhône and Puy-de-Dôme and were attacked between December 22, 2024 and January 8, 2025 by three or four perpetrators, acting early in the morning under threat of weapons, face hidden and using stolen cars, prosecutor said Eric Vaillant in a press release.

Frequent use of violence

They essentially stole cartons of cigarettes and when they could, cash, “not hesitating to use violence in the event of resistance”, he stressed. The damage “could exceed 20,000 euros on certain facts”.

The investigation opened for “theft with weapons by an organized gang, criminal conspiracy and destruction of property by dangerous means” and centralized in Grenoble with significant resources, made it possible to identify several suspects from the south-east of the Lyon sector and known unfavorably, according to him.

Several entries made

Three adults (19 years old, 20 years old and 21 years old) and three minors (two 17 years old and one 14 years old) were arrested early Thursday in Minor et Saint-Priest and was placed in police custody.

Vehicle starting equipment, hoods and clothing similar to those used by the perpetrators of the robberies were seized, according to the same source.
