A search operation took place on Wednesday in the Brussels-Charleroi canal, according to information from the daily Het Nieuwsblad confirmed by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. This act was carried out as part of the investigation into the violent death of the operator of a café in Schaerbeek on December 3. However, these searches yielded nothing, the prosecution said.

Several divers and a boat equipped with a sonar were requisitioned for this operation which lasted approximately three hours at the intersection between rue de Grand-Bigard and Vaartkant-Oost.

On December 3, the police were called around 8:40 p.m. to intervene in the entrance hall of a building located on Avenue du Diamant in Schaerbeek. When they arrived, officers from the Brussels-North police zone discovered a stabbed woman: Diana, a café owner. They provided first aid while waiting for help to arrive, but the victim died from his injuries.

The prosecution immediately opened a judicial investigation and, during the night, two suspects were arrested, including Diana’s ex-companion. Searches were also carried out as part of the investigation. The investigating judge decided to place the ex-companion under arrest warrant for murder, while the second individual arrested that night was acquitted.
