Genk have made the arrival of Myung-jun Kim official. The young striker will start with the U23s.
As suspected for a few days, Myung-jun Kim is indeed a Genk player. Racing has completed the arrival of the South Korean from the Pohang Steelers. This winter, the striker established himself in the first team, playing a few matches in the Asian Champions League.
Myung-jun Kim represents South Korea with the U20s, but it was especially during the U17 World Cup that he distinguished himself at the end of 2023, with two goals in three group stage matches. He has signed with Genk until June 2027, with two additional years optional.
“Of course, I already knew the KRC Genk. The club is known for producing great players. When they contacted me, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I was immediately impressed by the level here,” declares the new recruit on the site.
-Genk pursues South Korean sector
In Limburg, he will find Hyeon-gyu Oh. But unlike his compatriot, he will first have to help the U23s, currently last in D1B, to maintain their position: “I hope to learn a lot from him, on and off the field. My first objective is to prove myself with Jong Genk and then work my way into the first team.”
Stijn Haeldermans, technical coordinator of the U23s, describes him as “a mobile attacker with impressive physical qualities”. “He is not only very good in moving without the ball, but also excels in combination play and technique. His leadership qualities were evident when he captained South Korea at the U17 World Cup.”
