Bong Joon-ho’s new film promises to be a deliciously macabre sci-fi madness.
He made us wait 5 years, but finally, it’s the big return of Bong Joon-ho ! The South Korean director of Parasite will release his new Hollywood film, Mickey 17a decade after his denial Snowpiercer (2013). This time again, he takes advantage of the resources of the American industry (and Warner Bros. in this case) to sign a big, completely crazy science fiction story. A futuristic comedy, which tells of a world where human cloning exists, to allow Men to test the death that lurks around every corner in the confines of Space. Viruses, creatures or dangerous jobs, these “clones” are here to die, if ever… The new trailer (below) downright promises a macabre galactic farce not to be taken too seriously.
Robert Pattinson will therefore be Mickey, a loser who will decide to start his life again as an “expendable”, that is to say this “disposable employee, part of a human expedition sent to colonize an ice world named Niflheim. After each of his deaths, a new body is regenerated each time, with most of Mickey’s memories.”
True comedy or pure sci-fi film? No doubt a bit of both, since Bong Joon-ho has always been a fan of hybrid works.
-Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo complete the cast. Mickey 17 has been postponed and will be released in cinemas on March 5, 2025 in France.
