The Tunisian Network of Rights and Freedoms launched, this Wednesday, January 22, 2025, a vibrant appeal to Tunisian public opinion to demand the immediate release of lawyer and columnist Sonia Dahmani. Detained for more than eight months in conditions described as unworthy, Sonia Dahmani is considered by the Network to be a prisoner of conscience, victim of the authoritarian excesses of the current regime.
The Network denounces the spectacular circumstances of his arrest, marked by the intervention of hooded agents in the premises of the Maison de l’Avocat, an act judged to be a serious violation of fundamental rights. This arrest, according to the Network, reflects a clear attempt at intimidation and a desire to stifle critical and independent voices.
Sonia Dahmani, known for her courageous commitment to human rights and justice, would today pay the price for her bold criticism of the repressive policies in place. The Network claims that the accusations against her are unfounded and aim only to prolong her detention, with the aim of breaking her resolve and reducing her influence.
-While the court of appeal must rule on his case on January 24, 2025, the Network urges the Tunisian justice system to demonstrate impartiality and respect the fundamental principles of freedom of expression and justice. He warns of the dangers of a slide towards an even more repressive regime, to the detriment of democratic achievements.
Finally, the organization calls for national mobilization in support of Sonia Dahmani. His release would, according to her, be a victory for democracy, justice and human rights in Tunisia, reminding everyone of the importance of defending these essential values to preserve the dignity and freedom of each citizen.
