Incidents that accumulate
An incident which follows another that occurred on the night of Wednesday 15 to Thursday 16 January. Indeed, an Atlantic 2 maritime patrol aircraft of the French Navy also flying over the Baltic Sea had been “illuminated” by the fire control radar of a Russian S400 surface-to-air defense system.
“The fact of “illuminating” our aircraft operating in international waters with radar reflects an aggressive action”had explained to the’AFP Colonel Guillaume Vernet, spokesperson for the army general staff. Illumination qualifies in military language the fact of targeting an objective with a radar. Last step before taking a shot.
