Samsung wants to talk one step ahead. A year after being the first manufacturer to make AI an innovative function on smartphones with its Galaxy S24, the new Galaxy S25, unveiled on January 21 and on sale from February 7*, confirm the manufacturer’s progress in matter of artificial intelligence. On the occasion of his Galaxy UnpackedSamsung has thus formalized the upcoming launch of its S25, S25 + and S25 Ultra, three new terminals with a huge IQ, and which will not cost more than their predecessors.
Six months in advance, at least
In January 2024, Samsung surprised everyone. With its Galaxy S24, the manufacturer brought smartphones into the world of AI. Other manufacturers followed, at least six months later, with more or less developed AI functions: Apple, which is lagging behind (Apple Intelligence is expected in Europe in April 2025); Xiaomi/Redmi; or Honor, the most offensive.
While its rivals still do not match it, Samsung is still widening the gap and is now putting forward arguments that will carry weight. On its Galaxy S25, AI will take over thanks to… voice! It’s “like with a friend to whom you can speak in a natural way, with a fluid exchange”, we explain at Samsung France.
Because with the S25, there is no longer any need to type out your request, to ask in writing what you dream of seeing the AI do for you. All you have to do is talk. Here, no more “what is the name of the President of the Republic”, or “what will the weather be like tomorrow?” “. The S25 AI plays in the big leagues: “finds an Italian restaurant 15 minutes from my house, and shares the address with Léa”; “find the dates of the next matches of the French football team and save them in my calendar”; “find me the most interesting YouTube videos to plan my trip to New York”, etc.
Making its S25s more than just personal assistants, but real “partners” (that’s Samsung’s formula!) therefore seems within microphone range. We will obviously have to see how all this works in use, but above all, over time, whether the relevance and usefulness of such functionalities will be relevant. It’s a safe bet that we risk getting used to it, or even becoming addicted to it. Maybe that’s the point…
Life scenarios programmed by AI
As for this Now bartouted by Samsung during its Unpacked. On the S25 home screen, this bar summarizes the essential information you need during the day. So, when we wake up, we can find the day’s weather, the appointments that await us until the evening, the birthdays to celebrate, but also the best route to avoid traffic jams on the way to work, the ideal time to departure to be punctual, etc.
Dynamically updating, this Now Bar which can be referred to throughout the day, is also able to create personalized routines. Learning from our uses, the function can thus (when we enter our car), automate the opening of the gate in the garden, launch Google Maps, but also the radio that we are used to listening to every morning on the way to work. These “relevant” actions (in Samsung language) are enabled thanks to the dialogue made possible between AI and different smartphone applications. The user can accept or not that they are used in this way.
Advantage: no more hassle of opening each application in turn to access what we are looking for at a given moment: the AI will understand our needs and will make our task easier. The promise is beautiful. Here again, it remains to be seen how these interactions will be orchestrated and automated over time. We are thinking in particular of the uses that could result from these automations in the context of our connected homes, with life scenarios making everyday life simpler.
Functions already known
If we find on the Galaxy S25 the AI functions of the S24, particularly for productivity (automatic correction, change of style, text summary and summary with bullet points), access to these often quite effective aids no longer requires any special handling.
-Simply highlight a text to summon the AI and call the desired function. Or to surround an object, a monument… so that it is identified.
Progress is also announced around the image. Thanks to generative AI, the Galaxy S25 can create a drawing or emoticon from scratch in just a few seconds; make a flash montage of several video clips to bring them together into one, the duration of which you choose…
It is also possible to enhance a group photo by using the best poses of each person as long as several shots were taken during the shooting. Or even remove parasitic noises in a video (voice, music, wind, nature and crowd noises). Quite a few of these functions are already known, notably on Google’s Pixel 8 and Pixel 9.

The first of innovative functions
So, for even smarter S25s, Samsung has put everything in one basket: its personal assistant Bixby, but also Gemini, Google’s AI, or its conversational agent Gemini Live (also available through an application on iPhone). This 360° approach, undoubtedly the result of onerous commercial agreements with Google, with exclusive (but undoubtedly limited) operating periods, allows Samsung to maintain the first, by aggregating and stacking, features. innovative. Prem’s on voice AI in 2025!
The manufacturer, which in 2011 was the first to launch very large screen smartphones (Galaxy Note), those with borderless screens in 2017 (Galaxy S8), but also foldable ones in 2019 (Galaxy Flip and Fold) can still do so. This early 2025 will pride itself on being an innovative pioneer, ahead of its direct competitors, Apple and Xiaomi.
