The streaming giant announced an increase in its prices in the United States, in a context of an increase in the number of subscribers. And in France?
The outlook is good for Netflix. The streaming platform announced this Tuesday, January 21, 2025 that it had exceeded the mark of 300 million subscribers worldwide, reports CNN. In total, the sector giant gained a record 19 million new subscribers in the last quarter of 2024, raising its total number of subscribers to 302 million worldwide. This is thanks to the success of Squid Game or the clash between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
But the subscribers are not likely to smile for long. Netflix also announced an increase in its prices in the United States, Canada, Argentina and Portugal. The standard subscription will increase from $15.49 per month to $17.99 per month. The premium subscription increases by 2 dollars and goes to 24.99 dollars per month. Even the standard subscription with ads is seeing increases, now reaching $7.99 per month. The streaming platform justifies this increase in prices by its desire to “invest” more in new programs and to provide “quality content” in order to “improve” Netflix.
France is not yet concerned
But what about France? For the moment, no announcement of an increase in prices in our regions has been made by the streaming platform, and subscribers in France are not yet affected by this increase.
-But it’s hard to say that it never will be. Historically, the streaming platform’s strategy has shown that the increase in prices takes place a few months later than in the United States. If this is not yet a certainty, it is not impossible that an increase will be announced in France in the coming months.
The last increase in Netflix subscription prices in our territory dates back to fall 2023, notably with the elimination of the Essential subscription. Remember that the prices in force in France are as follows: the subscription with advertisements costs 5.99 euros per month, the standard subscription without advertisements costs 13.49 euros per month, while the premium offer amounts to 19 .99 euros per month.
