This victory is the 19th in a row for Sinner, undefeated since the final of the Beijing tournament in early October 2024, where he was dominated by world number 3 Carlos Alcaraz.

Thanks to his success against De Minaur, beaten ten times in as many confrontations by the Italian, Sinner became the first player from his country to reach the last four of the first Grand Slam of the season several times.

Double winner in Grand Slams (Australian Open and US Open 2024), Sinner would become the most successful Italian in major tournaments if he wins in Melbourne. He currently shares his record with Pietrangeli, winner of Roland-Garros in 1959 and 1960.

Sinner will face Ben Shelton on Friday, who fell in four sets to Italian Lorenzo Sonego (55th) earlier in the day.

In the other semi-final, the ten-time winner in Melbourne Novak Djokovic (ATP 7) will challenge the German Alexander Zverev (ATP 2).
