The deputy mayor of the municipality of Hesperange has announced that he is taking a “two-month political break” and is temporarily withdrawing from his various functions.

He wishes to take a “political break”: the deputy mayor of Hesperange, Marc Lies (CSV), announced this mid-week that he is taking a “break” of several weeks and will therefore no longer temporarily exercise his different functions. A “personal” decision, in order to recover after a period of “intense stress”, according to our colleagues at RTL.

Aged 56, Marc Lies, however, assured that this leave would not disrupt the smooth running of the daily affairs of the municipality and that it was in no way a resignation. He also suspends his parliamentary mandate as head of the Internal Affairs Committee in the Chamber of Deputies.

As a reminder, Marc Lies was the subject of controversy last summer following an outing on refugees who allegedly killed chickens. He had also canceled a decision taken behind closed doors concerning the recruitment of one of his relatives.
