The American Ben Shelton (20th) qualified for the semi-finals of the Australian Open on Wednesday, thanks to his victory against the Italian Lorenzo Sonego (55th).

Winner 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), the native of Atlanta (Georgia) will face in the semi-finals the winner of the match between the defending champion Jannik Sinner (1st) and the Australian Alex De Minaur (8th).

By dominating Sonego on Wednesday on the court of the Rod Laver Arena, Shelton offered himself at 22 his second semi-final in the major tournaments, after that of 2023 at the US Open.

The 29-year-old Italian was playing his first Grand Slam quarter-final.
