US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that new sanctions against Russia are ‘likely’ if Moscow does not negotiate an end to the war against Ukraine. ‘The war would never have happened if I had been president’ at the time, he argued.

The new American president further indicated that the United States would ‘look into’ continuing military aid to kyiv, which amounts to tens of billions of dollars since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 .

‘We are talking [au président ukrainien Volodymyr] Zelensky,’ Mr. Trump said. ‘We will speak very soon with the president [russe Vladimir] Putin and we’ll see what happens’.

The Republican billionaire, who had promised during the electoral campaign to end the war in 24 hours, once again took on the European Union, which ‘should pay much more than it currently does’.

On Monday, President Trump put pressure on by judging that Russia would be heading for disaster if it refused to negotiate and seal a ceasefire or peace agreement with Ukraine.

As for the Ukrainian president, Mr. Trump once again said that he wanted ‘an agreement’, also stressing that the number of victims of the war was largely underestimated.
