In their second friendly match of the year, Instituto drew 0–0 against Defensor Sporting in the Serie Río de la Plata in Uruguay. This match was a preparation point before the start of the Liga Profesional Apertura.

After the match against Defensor Sporting, Instituto will return to Córdoba to focus on their next opening match in the Primera División. They are scheduled to face Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. in Alta Córdoba.
