-CRS on patrol in the city of Castellane, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Tuesday January 21. For almost a year, police operations have been almost daily there to combat drug trafficking. Although several deal points have disappeared, drug trafficking continues in the neighborhood. This is evidenced by the prices which are always displayed on the walls.
There are 84 active deal points in Marseille, 29 were closed last year. An assessment which the Bouches-du-Rhône police prefect welcomed at a press conference, even if he recognizes that the situation remains fragile. “When we remove a deal point, that doesn’t mean that all the drug trafficking associated with it disappears”he recalled. Last year, 24 people lost their lives amid drug trafficking in the department, which is half as many as the previous year. In 2024, in the city, the fight against drug trafficking has led to the indictment of more than 2,000 people, including 200 in homicide cases.
