A massive reminder. The Citroën company has just extended recalls of Citroën C3 and DS3 throughout Europe on Tuesday January 21, due to defective airbags manufactured by the Japanese brand Takata.

A first wave of recalls should quickly be organized, the Stellantis group brand announced this Tuesday: by the end of January. This recall concerns more than 98,000 vehicles, including 73,000 in France.

After the repair of 102,000 Citroën and DS vehicles in southern Europe (i.e. France, Italy, Spain and Portugal), the recall campaign will subsequently be extended to northern France and Germany and Austria. , in Hungary, Moldova, Switzerland and finally, Ukraine and Ireland. In total, three waves are expected, with around 869,000 vehicles affected, including 400,000 in France.

The French manufacturer then mentioned an airbag problem “which could cause serious injuries or even death”. The latter were supplied by the Japanese automobile company Takata, which filed for bankruptcy in 2017.

These airbags in fact suffer from a significant defect: as they age, the body of their inflator can be subjected to too high a pressure. They can then explode and project metal fragments in hot and humid climates.

How to identify an affected vehicle?

The owners concerned should, once again, be notified by registered mail. Otherwise, it is possible to check if a vehicle is affected on the Citroën and DS sites, using the VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number), which can be found on a car's registration document.

A call center is also available during the week but also on Saturday mornings, to be contacted at 08.05.98.04.02. Owners of affected models are invited to contact an approved Citroën and DS garage.
