The world risks moving forward without Europe, Volodomyr Zelensky warned in Davos the day after the American inauguration. The continent, which was already not the number one priority for the United States under Joe Biden, risks falling further behind under Trump.
“Today, all eyes are on Washington, but who cares about Europe?” the Ukrainian president said straight away on Tuesday afternoon. “Washington does not think that Brussels can bring it anything,” he continued, listing the continent’s weaknesses.
Europe must learn to manage itself independently, said Volodymyr Zelensky, emphasizing its weak defense. “The United States has a lot more ammunition,” he explained. “We need a united European security and defense policy,” Volodymyr Zelensky insisted on Tuesday, affirming that “Europe must know how to defend itself,” added the leader.
“Will Trump listen to the EU or negotiate with Russia and China without Europe?” Volodymyr Zelensky asked again, while Donald Trump promised in November the end of the war in Ukraine “in 24 hours”. The Republican made no mention of Ukraine during his inauguration speech Monday.
