Legal challenges already launched against several decrees signed by Donald Trump, in particular that calling into question land law

As soon as the numerous presidential decrees were signed by Donald Trump, some American groups and researchers believe that he has exceeded the limits of his executive power. For certain texts, legal challenges were immediate.

Thus, even before Donald Trump’s exit from Capitol Hill, three lawsuits were already raising questions about the appointment of Tesla founder Elon Musk to head a new “Department of Government Effectiveness” (DOGE), initiative by public interest groups who believe that this department does not respect laws on transparency of government advisory committees, reports The Washington Post.

For example, a complaint filed by the law firm National Security Counselors, consulted by the American daily, states that DOGE violates a 1972 law which requires that the advisory committees of the executive branch follow certain rules regarding transparency, hiring and other areas of operation.

The decree calling into question the right of land, a provision provided for by the 14e amendment to the Constitution, has also been the subject of legal challenges. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), one of the main organizations defending civil liberties in the United States, announced that it had launched legal proceedings to challenge this decree.

The governor of New York State, Democrat Kathy Hochul, for her part announced in a press release that her office was examining the details of the decree, but that « State of New York [était] ready to take all measures in his power” to defend land rights.
