Bad as a flat pilsner, Anderlecht suffers its first European defeat of the season at Viktoria Plzen

RSCA played one of its worst matches of the season in Plzen. The Mauves could have had a real defeat: 2-0 was a lenient score.

The most successful club in Belgium traveling to the birthplace of pilsner: on paper, the marriage was perfect. The RSCA may have been struggling in the league in recent weeks, but David Hubert’s record in the European Cup has been almost immaculate so far, and the last trip to the Czech Republic had left people very optimistic for this match at Viktoria Plzen.

It only took two minutes to disabuse everyone. The experimental eleven (Foket, Angulo, Degreef, Augustinsson on the left of a three-way defense…) of Sporting is caught cold: an error from Foket offers a shooting window to Lukas Cervwho draws (1-0, 2nd). The same Foket almost experiences a nightmare when he holds Kalvach in the rectangle, but Coosemans calmly captures the very poorly taken penalty from Sulc (10th).

The worst Anderlecht of the Hubert era?

We say to ourselves that this is perhaps the stroke of luck that was needed for Anderlecht to escape. Unfortunately, the spectacle will be disastrous: the Mauves absolutely fail in all their actions, with the exception of Degreef who dares a little and Vazquez alone on his island, uninspired in his movements but courageous. Dendoncker, completely on the street, almost offers Adu the break; Rits makes an emergency clearance (27th).

Anderlecht’s only strike arrives after 33 minutes: Tristan Degreef, launched full axis, strikes almost out of spite – it will not be on target. After yet another defensive sketch with Dendoncker again in the spotlight, Adu will find Coosemans’ crossbar; it’s only a postponed game, because just before the break and while we say to ourselves that 1-0 would have been a miracle, the same Prince Adu plays with the same Dendoncker to make the break (2-0, 45th).

This Adu, a 21-year-old Ghanaian striker with a modest CV which mentions stints at Isloch Minsk and Kryvbas Kryvyih Rih, will have made the screen this evening; from the restart, he again came up against Coosemans (46th), who he would give a difficult evening. Booed by the Doosan Arena for having played a bit of a comedy, the Anderlecht goalkeeper was very frightened first by a cross which went over him and hit the batten (64th), then by having the ball stolen in front of his goals, without consequence (65th).

Amuzu and Hazard, who returned at the hour mark to bring some ideas, clearly don’t have any. After a semi-chance from Anderlecht (a blocked strike from Leoni), it will once again be Adu who will find the post with a curling shot (76th), and we wonder how the score is not heavier. It will remain 2-0, without ever thinking that the Mauves could pick up the score. The worst Anderlecht of the Hubert era? There is a match with the one who lost in Bruges, but the opponent was supposed to be of a lower caliber this evening…
